Behaviour Change Interventions (BCI) in-person

OCTOBER 11/12th 2024

This 2 day immersive event is going to be a game changer!

WHAT IS IT?

Short Summary:

This is a 2 day in-person training which will up-skill you, the Healthcare Practitioner or Coach, in the key psychological underpinnings and Behaviour Change interventions needed to enhance your practice.

Longer version:

Away from the grind of daily life you will take 2 days to be with a group like-minded practitioners who are ready to immerse themselves in what it really means to change behaviour. This will enable you to receive 20 hours CPD certification in Behaviour Change Interventions from the The Psychology School.

In this beautiful, very non-corporate setting in the beautiful Lake District, you will be guided through a series of teaching and exercises that will enable you to leave with:

  • An understanding of how change is perceived and achieved in humans - and why we need to understand this before we try and help our patients/clients.

  • Tools to unlock your patient/client WHY and why this is crucial to their success.

  • A deep understanding of the role of motivation in change, and how we can impact this as practitioners and coaches.

  • Nudge Theory Interventions - what a nudge is (and isn’t!) and how you can implement basic nudges to help your clients make decisions.

  • Tools on how to effectively set goals - that your patients/clients actually want to stick to.

  • Motivational interviewing techniques to help you feel more confident in eliciting true change.

  • An understanding of how we can utilise what we know about Neuroplasticity to aide change and success.

  • Boundaries and leadership in your practice - and why these ultimately help your patients/clients achieve the results they desire.

The 2 days will give you the opportunity to work through techniques and use the tools you have been given, all with the guidance of your tutor, Serena, helping you along the way (see more about your tutors below).

YOU WILL ALSO GET…

This isn’t just any training, this is The Psychology School Training (think Marks & Spencers voiceover here!)…

…I want you to be able to have the space to really process the learning while we are here together for these 2 precious days. That’s why I’ll be factoring in time for you actually practice what we learn both on your own; so with time for self-reflection and also with others on the course.

For those who wish to, and as part of the programme I’ve also included for you to be guided on a beautiful sunset dip, with the exceptional Cold Water & Ice Swimming Coach Gilly McArthur.

This will take place on the Friday evening, after our day of teaching (more about this below*)

Gilly really is a beautiful spirit and trailblazer in this area, as she was swimming in ice longe before it was popularised.

To find out more about Gilly see ‘about your tutors’ below.

NB: This is included in your place, but not compulsory.

Gilly McArthur | Lake District

WHERE IS IT?

It’s a place I’ve picked intentionally, where you get to experience being away from the grind of normal life. A place to find the stillness and think, to experience and be inspired…after all this is when we do our best work.

For those who book on, you will be of course be given more information about the venue and how to get there.

NOTE: Windermere has a train station. This is a 6 minute drive from the venue.

THERE’S MORE

You will have food provided during our training days.

Tea & coffee will be provided across both days (AM & PM), you will also be given a beautiful vegetarian lunch on both days of your training.

This is being catered by the fabulous Joey’s, a well known eatery in Ambleside who will be delivering our super lunches fresh to us on both days.

You are also invited to evening drinks on the Friday in a lovely bar in the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere.

A drink and snacks are provided for you on this evening so that you have some time to reconnect with your course mates and have time to chat further and decompress over a berevage (think pizza and beer!).

*Venue booked and is included in your place. Details given in your booking info.

WHY DO IT?

This training very much for people who not only want good information, tools, training & CPD but is very much deigned for people who want the following:

Ultimately if you are considering booking on to BCI in-person, you realise that this this is also an investment in yourself and your mindset, not just your work.

If this was just about the training , you could book onto the on-line course.

This too is a fantastic course (of course), but is very much for people who want to learn in this way.

(NB: Enrolment for the online course opens in March, with the course start being June 3rd, 2024).

WHO IS IT FOR?

This event is aimed at Healthcare practitioners and coaches who work with patients/clients in a capacity where they are prescribing/where change is at the core of the work/where ongoing engagement is needed.

This will include:

  • Physiotherapists

  • Osteopaths

  • Occupational Health

  • Nurses - all areas

  • Doctors & surgeons (particularly those working in MSK health)

  • Dentists

  • Personal Trainers/exercise practitioners

  • Other allied health professionals who deliver ongoing ‘prescription’ to patients/clients.

  • Yoga, Pilates and/or other exercise practitioners.

This is particularly suitable to those in private practice or those who have their own business/clinic.

WHO IS IT NOT FOR?

This is strictly not a train the trainer course.

In other words if you are a teacher, coach or therapist looking to teach behaviour change or likewise are looking to include a framework into your delivery, then this is not for you.

This is designed very much with integration in mind. You essentially want to use it to enhance your own practice, not enhance your own teaching or delivery.

I also don’t believe it will be entirely suitable for psychologists, psychotherapists or other talking therapy practitioners.

Although I teach from my own model of change (the A.P.E Model) which is arguably different from models that currently are widely used/practiced, it’s possible that much of what we cover, certainly for people with a grounding in psychology, that this will be too basic.

If you however you feel that this is something you’d like to do, please email me at serenasimmons@icloud.com and we can organise a brief chat to see what your needs are and figure out if this is the best fit for you : )

THE INVESTMENT

The full cost for this training is £1200.00.

You can choose to pay in full, in x 3 instalments or 6 instalments.

Instalment options include an additional admin charge which is charged at cost. These can be seen below.

It may be worth noting that this is the only time this will priced at £1200.00 as this is a first in-person training of this nature and therefore considered a first time offer price.

It’s also important to note that the full training must be paid for prior to commencing, which means that the 6 month instalment plan will not be available after 1st May. The 3 month plan will not be available after 1st August.

It’s also important to know that there are a finite amount of places available. This is both due to the space itself, but more importantly the immersive nature of the training. Once the spots have been filled the doors will close again until next year (October 2025).

So what do your get for your investment?

What your investment includes:

  • 2 full days of Behaviour Change Immersive Training with me, Serena Simmons.

  • A drink and nibbles Friday night in a well known Bowness-on-Windermere bar.

  • CPD Certificate for 20 hours of LIVE CPD.

  • Accommodation

  • Additional snacks/food and evening meals

Why the cold dip?

Included in your place is the opportunity to have a cold water training and sunset dip with Gilly McArthur, a world renowned cold water swimmer and ice swimming coach (and genuinely lovely, and deeply inspiring person : ).

The reason I’ve chosen to include this, isn’t just because..why wouldn’t we take advantage of being right on the Lakeside?…but because the act of dipping in cold water allows us to experience so many of the teachings from the day.

Gilly will guide you through this as you get to look at some of these key themes we’ve covered during the day. That’s all I’d like to share for now.

Ultimately this will be a wonderful exercise for you even if you are used to cold water. And if you’re not, you’re in for a treat!

When will I do this?..

We finish training 4.30-5pm on the Friday, from here you will be able to have your dip right off the bay at the Jetty Museum.

Around this time of year, weather dependent of course; temperatures are often around the 15 degree mark which is officially a cold dip (!). Eeeeeek!

Other things to know about the dip*

If you book a place will be given further instructions re what will happens/what to bring etc.

The dip is very much weather dependent and will only go ahead if clement. This will be decided on the day and as a result may be moved to the Saturday morning (for obvious safety reasons).

Quite honestly you couldn’t have a better teacher. If you’d like to find about more about Gilly and her passion for introducing people to cold water, then do go and have a look at her Instagram page at @gillymcarthur. You could also search for more videos on YouTube.

You’ll find plenty there to get you excited about what’s ahead!

WHAT THIS WILL DO FOR YOU AND YOUR PRACTICE

This is clearly an investment in you and your practice if you choose to undertake this training.

I want you to go away with not only with a deeper understanding of Psychology and why people/your patients may have been behaving the way they do, but with a set of tools and interventions that you feel excited to use.

In fact one of my favourite things I hear from people who have trained with me is.. ‘now I’m excited to have a tricky patient’. Because now you have the tools that you can utlise and feel confident in using with patients just like this.

Other than tools and interventions, which is arguably the main point of the training, is that I want you to go away feeling inspired and re-energised to back to your work/practice.

There really is nothing like stepping away and letting someone else take care of the details for you, and the Lakes is such a special place to take yourself to to immerse yourself in your own growth and learning.

Holding this training here will kinaesthically allow us to tap into so many other aspects of behaviour change that you just can’t from learning on a screen. To be surrounded by nature, to be in a different environment and to meet and connect with others.

This is all a vital part to the experience I have created for you.

SOME FAQs

Q1: Can I do this training of I’ve already done your online course?

A: Yes, although you should know that 95% of this will be the same information.

What I would hate to do however, is to make a decision that I feel is personal one, in so much that, if you would like to go over the material, feel like you could learn more in-person, want the immersive experience, then this is really a personal decision to make and not mine to gate-keep.

It’s important however that you know that essentially the material will be something you have seen/heard before.

With that said, if you do book on, it would be delightful to see you (and not just a face on a screen!).

Q2: Do you give discounts to students?

A: No. There are no discounts for this course.

Q3: What is your cancellation policy?

A: Your course place is non-refundable so please only sign up if you are in a position to commit.

As I’m sure you are aware a lot of money and planning goes into events like these, with much money being paid up front before anything even happens.

You can however give your place to someone else, as long you update me with their details. I’m also a really reasonable person and so if there is an emergency for example (that can be evidenced), it maybe that we can look at moving you to a spot next year (2025).

Q: Will get CPD hours for this?

A: Absolutely!

You will get a certificate for 20 hours CPD in Psychology & Behaviour Change which will be e-mailed to you after the bonus session. This accounts for 2 x 8 hour teaching days, a 2 hour ‘dip’ and bonus Q&A session. This will be awarded by The Psychology School.

If you find that your question hasn’t been answered here, please do email me at serenasimmons@icloud.com

I’d be delighted to answer any residual things fo ryou that might be preventing you from making a decision.

Ultimately this has to be the right course for you and I realise that your time and money is a great investment, so do reach out.
